Proverbs 10:19-21 Words

Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut. The words of the godly are like sterling silver; the heart of a fool is worthless. The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense. (Proverbs 10:19-21 NLT)

I absolutely love this scripture! So all of these have to do with our words obviously, and words have brought Christians a ton of trouble lately. God warns us here that we can often talk too much. The old saying goes, “you were born with two ears and one mouth for a reason.”
The words of a Christian should be a blessing to those who hear them. We should encourage and always impart something of value with our words. Sometimes this may mean we need to correct another person, but we are to do this in love, not anger.
Have you ever talked yourself into a corner? If you are a married man you absolutely know what I mean, and it’s not fun. The Lord shows us here that it is better to shut up than make a fool out of ourselves. When we open our mouthes, let us first ask, “are these Godly words I am about to say?” If not then maybe listen awhile longer until the Holy Spirit gives you something wiser to say.
